Make sure you understand the complexities of Florida's Ethics, Sunshine Laws and Public Records laws so you can be certain to avoid unintended pitfalls. The Florida’s Code of Ethic, Florida's Government in the Sunshine Law and Florida's Public Records Act Law courses have been developed under the auspices of the Legislature and in partnership with the Commission on Ethics and the Florida Attorney General's Office.

  • Important Note: Under the requirements of the new 2013 legislation highlighted below, the four hours of training for constitutional officers and elected municipal officers must include (at a minimum) information on the State’s Code of Ethics, the Sunshine Law (public meetings), and Public Records. By taking all three individual comprehensive modules, Constitutional officers will not only meet the new requirements, but become well versed in all aspects of these laws.

    Section 112.3142(2)(a), F.S., states: All constitutional officers must complete 4 hours of ethics training each calendar year that addresses, at a minimum, s. 8 Art. II of the State Constitution, the Code of Ethics for Public Officers and Employees, and the public records and public meetings laws of this state. This requirement may be satisfied by completion of a continuing legal education class.

    Section 112.3142(2)(b), F.S., brought into the statutes by Chapter 183, Laws of Florida 2014, states: Beginning January 1, 2015, all elected municipal officers must complete 4 hours of ethics training each calendar year that addresses, at a minimum, s. 8 Art. II of the State Constitution, the Code of Ethics for Public Officers and Employees, and the public records and public meetings laws of this state. This requirement may be satisfied by completion of a continuing legal education class.
