The Florida Institute of Government will be hosting the F.A.C.E “Legal Issues of Code Enforcement” (Level II) certification classes in Panama City from Feb. 21 - 25, 2022. This 36 hour course includes the following sessions (followed by the certification exam on Friday afternoon, Feb. 25, 2022):
 
  • Case Development (4 hours)
  • Evidentiary Issues (4 hours)
  • Testifying and Demeanor(4 hours)
  • Other Legal Options (4 hours)
  • Code Enforcement Board (4 hours)
  • Mock Code Enforcement Board Hearing (4 hours)
  • Special Issues (4 hours)
  • Local Government Ordinances (2 hours)
  • Mock Citation Trial (2 hours)
  • Review for Exam (required) (4 hours)

Important Note: You must register and pay for the Class and Exam separately! CLASS registration and payments are made to the IOG at FSU. EXAM registration and payments are made to the IOG at UCF.

Class Information

CLASS PERIOD: Classes run from Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and Friday from 8:00 - 12:00 pm. (Lunch & snacks will be on your own each day.) Please note that all times are Central Standard Time (CST).

Exam Information

EXAM REQUIREMENTS: After attending the required 36 hours of classes, Code Enforcement officers must successfully pass an examination in order to receive certification in “Legal Issues of Code Enforcement."

EXAM PERIOD:Hilton Garden Inn, Panama City, 1101 US Highway 231, Panama City, FL 32405

LOCATION: Escambia County Government Complex, 3363 W. Park Place, Pensacola, FL 32505

EXAM FEES:

F.A.C.E. Members: $100.00 if payment is postmarked no later than two weeks (14 days) prior to the exam date. Late Member fee of $135.00 if payment is received after that date. P.O.’s must be provided prior to the cut-off date to avoid the higher fee.

Non-Members: $150.00 if payment is postmarked no later than two weeks (14 days) prior to the exam date. Late Non-Member fee of $185.00 if payment is received after that date.

Hotel Information

HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS: A small block of hotel rooms has been reserved (from Sunday evening, Feb. 20th through Friday, Feb. 25th) at the Hilton Garden Inn, Panama City, with a special room rate of $119 per night for code officers. You can reserve your room by clicking here.
 

Additional Information

PAYMENT FOR CLASS: Since our office is in the process of moving to a new online payment system, you can either pay by check now or wait until after January 3, 2022 to pay by credit card. (We will send you the link to the credit card payment information as soon as it's available.)
 
REFRESHMENTS: Coffee will be provided in the morning but refreshments and lunch are on your own each day.
 
CONFIRMATION OF REGISTRATION: You will receive a confirmation letter from the IOG at FSU upon registration and payment of CLASS fees. A separate, additional confirmation letter will be sent from the IOG at UCF upon registration and receipt of payment for the certification EXAM.
 
IMPORTANT POLICY NOTE: Effective Jan. 1, 2016, no person may attend F.A.C.E. training or take an exam if approved payment has not been made prior to the start of the class or exam.
 
REFUND POLICY: Requests for refunds must be submitted in writing and received no later than one week prior to the first day of classes. In such cases, the registration fee, less a $50 administration charge, will be refunded. No requests for refunds will be honored after that date. Non-attendance does not constitute a withdrawal or refund.
