LEVEL IV CERTIFICATION CLASSES:

The John Scott Dailey Florida Institute of Government is pleased to offer the FACE Officer Safety & Field Applications (Level IV) Certification classes in DeFuniak Springs from July 15 – July 18, 2019. This course is comprised of 30 hours of instruction with all classes excluding the Exam.

 

LEVEL IV CERTIFICATION EXAM:  

After attending the 30 hours of instruction, Code Enforcement professionals must successfully pass an examination in order to receive certification. The test will be given on Thursday afternoon, July 18, from 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm (CST), at the NW Florida State College in Defuniak Springs.

The Officer Safety & Field Applications (Level IV) Certification Exam requires a separate registration fee and payment made to the Florida Institute of Government at the University of Central Florida (UCF). To take the exam, you must fill out the Exam Registration Form Online. You will have the opportunity to either pay online or be invoiced by the Florida Institute of Government at the University of Central Florida.  If you need additional information about the exam, contact Susan Pruchnicki at (407) 882-3960. 

This must be completed no later than July 5, 2019 to avoid a $35.00 Late Fee.

 

Course Payment Instructions:

Due to the strong interest in the certification program and limitations on class size, registrations will be confirmed only if they are paid for by a check or credit card. 

To pay by credit card, call our office at (850) 487-1870 and specify that you would like to pay for the FACE Officer Safety Class scheduled July 15, 2019. To pay by check, please mail a copy of your registration form and payment to the Institute at the address listed on the registration form. 

Deadline to receive Class registration form and payment is June 28, 2019 or earlier as class is expected to fill completely.

 

HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS:

A small block of rooms has been reserved at the Best Western Crossroads Inn in DeFuniak Springs. If you need hotel accommodations, please call the Best Western at (850) 892-5111 and ask for the special Code Enforcement group rate of $99.99 per night.

The deadline to make your hotel reservations is May 15th or earlier if the room block sells out early.

 

Additional DETAILS:

  • Class size for the workshop is limited to the first 30 with paid registrations.   • Light morning and afternoon refreshments will be provided. Lunch is on your own and is NOT included in registration fees.
     
  • Requests for refunds must be submitted in writing and received no later than one week prior to the first day of classes. In such cases, the registration fee, less a $50 administration charge, will be refunded. No requests for refunds will be honored after that date. FACE OFFICER SAFETY & FIELD APPLICATIONS (Level IV) TRAINING SCHEDULE
July 15 – 18, 2019 (EXAM: July 18, 2019, 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm)

Monday through Wednesday classes are scheduled from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Thursday classes are scheduled from 8:00 am – 2:30 pm.  Lunch will be on your own each day.  The Exam will take place from 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm.  Please note that all times are Central Standard Time (CST).

Defensive Tactics with Practical Applications

This course offers classroom and hands-on training for the Code Enforcement Officer’s personal safety. You will learn strike and pressure points, proper blocking and striking, weapon defense, takedown, ground fighting, and escape techniques.

Note: This course has a physical element. Participants must complete a Liability Waiver in order to participate.  The Liability Waiver will be sent with your confirmation letter.

 

Tuesday, July 16th from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Interpersonal Skills Training Part I: Conflict, Courtesy, Human Behavior, and Diversity

Learn skills to better stabilize threatening situations including: how to demonstrate courtesy and respect during times of conflict; understanding of basic individual needs; dealing with the complexities of a diverse population.
 Note: The diversity segment of this course will be continued into the next day.  

 

Wednesday, July 17th from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Interpersonal Skills Training Part II: Persons with Special Concerns, Substance Abuse, and Officer Survival

This session will continue the diversity training from Session Two.  You will learn to interact with special needs citizens, recognize physical signs of persons under the influence of drugs, and gain the skills necessary to remain alert and aware of your environment to ensure safety while on the job.

 

Thursday, July 18th from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm  Field Safety and Survival

Learn the basic skills to handle an aggressive animal; how to identify and properly handle situations involving hazardous materials; techniques such as stance and demeanor to remain in control and avoid unnecessarily confrontational situations.
